Abstract

The This study aims to describe the use of medication in children affected by Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) at Viola Mother and Child Hospital, Bekasi, during the period of April – September 2024. This research employs a descriptive method that illustrates the treatment and factors influencing HFMD using a retrospective approach based on patient medical records.The study sample consists of patients confirmed positive for HFMD at Viola Mother and Child Hospital, Bekasi, who meet the inclusion criteria. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Data processing is conducted using Microsoft Excel 2021. Data analysis is presented in table format with descriptive explanations and percentage calculations. The study results show that: 1) Treatment outcomes for HFMD: All 53 samples survived (100%), and there were no fatalities (0%). 2) Based on sociodemographic data, the majority of cases were male, totaling 35 individuals (66%), with the most affected age range being ≥ 1 – ≤ 3 years, accounting for 26 individuals (49%). 3) The treatment of HFMD includes eight drug categories: antivirals, antibiotics, antipyretics, antifungals, antiseptics, antihistamines, corticosteroids, and vitamins. The most frequently used medication is Acyclovir, with 45 cases (85%), primarily for symptoms of red spots on the body. 4) The main symptoms observed are ulcers on the inner cheek mucosa, red spots on the body, fever, cough and cold, and diarrhea. 5) The use of generic drugs is higher at Viola Mother and Child Hospital, Bekasi.
