Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the conversational implicature made by the main characters in the movie script “Monster, Inc.” and to identify the principles they violate by Grice’s theory. By analyzing these elements, the writer hopes to understand the utterance meanings of the conversation rules violated by the main characters. The method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative, where data is obtained through downloading the movie script “Monster, Inc.” from the Internet. After the collection of data, the writer interpreted the utterance meaning in the conversation and classified the utterances based on the principles that were violated in Grice’s theory.
